Queen Cosplays

Made and put together during 2019 thru 2022.

Queen is one of the most popular bands of the 1970's and 1980's. Known for hits like "Bohemian Rhapsody", "I Want to Break Free", and "Killer Queen", their songs are still universally known today.

Ever since I watched the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" I've been obsessed with Queen's songs and band members. I've made several outfits based on looks they've worn over the years.

Vocals and Piano: Freddie Mercury

Lead Guitar: Brian May

Bass Guitar: John Deacon

Drums: Roger Taylor

Brian May's Zandra Rhodes Top Commission-

This top was made specially for James Perkin, who plays Brian May in the Queen tribute band "Don't Stop Queen Now". Made with the same methods as my personal top (described below), except instead of draping, I hand patterned the bodice. So cool to have my costume appear onstage for a rock concert!

Brian May's Zandra Rhodes Top-

This is the first one, the one I made for myself. I fell in love with Rhodes' original stage costume she made for Brian in the 70's. This top is made of white satin, quilt batting, pre-pleated white satin from Mood, black moisture-wicking knit, black bias tape (double fold in multiple sizes), a side zipper, and snaps. I quilted the satin together, sandwiching batting in between and stitched it down with black bias tape stripes. It was draped, and the side and center panels were cut and sewn together. The plain quilting was done on the side panels after being attached, so it lines up with the stripes. The neck is finished with black bias, and a zipper is added to the side. I hand pleated the skirt and added it, then gathered the pre-pleated fabric and attached it to the armholes, along with the black stretch knit undersleeves. Worn with black boots, black flared pants, and a curly dark wig.

Roger Taylor's "I Want to Break Free" Drag Outfit-

Everything was thrifted, except for the pink and yellow tie and shorts. I made the tie fabric by sewing together strips of yellow and pink satin, and used a tie pattern to cut it out and sew it together. It was interfaced in the center with hair canvas. The shorts were car print cotton (as tribute to Roger's song "I'm In Love With My Car"), and were worn under a black skirt. Worn with black tights, tennis shoes, a white button down, and blonde wig with black and white dot hair bows.

"I Want to Break Free" Group Cosplay-

My friends and I all went to Comic Con dressed as Queen in their drag outfits. My friend Catherine wore my Roger costume (described above). I thrifted and put together Elizabeth's John costume (worn with a black coat, black skirt, black hat, fox scarf, brooch, and grey wig), and made the other two costumes. I made Heather's pink satin nightgown with the side slit, lace detail, and elasticized waist. I bought the bunny slippers and pink striped socks, and styled the curler-filled wig. I thrifted the pink sleeveless sweater for my Freddie costume, and made the black leather skirt with the slit for myself. Worn with heels, tights, a bob wig, and a fake moustache.
